Daddy & Me Portrait - Baby Photography

I received a surprised phone call from a man all the way in Virginia, CA introducing himself as the grandfather of the baby girl that I photographed with her father who is his son. He said that he saw the portraits on my website and he and his wife were so impressed with the beautiful images that I had captured of their son and granddaughter together. Below are some of the images...

"Minh, we absolutely love the pictures you took of Jeremy & Lilianna
together! They're hanging in our library, family room, and great
grandparents' homes...superb!" Joe Boltersdorf - Virginia, CA

Got Talent?

I put together this photo montage to show a series of portraits I created of Jalasha for her model/talent portfolio. She's a hip-hop and jazz dancer. Jalasha exudes so much character and energy. She really knows how to make powerful eye contact with the camera. Star quality in action!

"Aw..!", "Aw...!" - Children Photography

This cute baby girl (Jordan) was so much fun to work with! She's was so happy and upbeat the entire time, which made it really easy for me. During the preview presentation, every time an image of Jordan came up on the screen, her mom's heart seemed to have melted. She couldn't help swooning with affection "Aw...!", "Aw...!"...

"Minh was so warm and friendly. He had great patience with our daughter which was nice, and made the photo session fun for her. We then went back to see the proofs a week later and couldn't believe our eyes. The photos of her were just breathtaking! I highly recommend Minh Ha Photography." Audrey W., San Pablo, CA

Big Bro-To-Be - Maternity Portraits Photography

Nolan, a shimmering bronze, curly hair baby boy is soon to be a big brother. He has just started learning how to walk. I was at his home mainly to do a maternity portrait of his mom (Amber) with her family. Nolan is really interesting in the way that he could turn off his smile amazingly fast! I was clowning around and did all kind of tricks to make him laugh. His face would light up, beaming with delight, and his eyes would sparkle. But the minute I pulled away to photograph him, his joyful expression immediately and completely vanished. Hmm... Interesting! :)

"Wow, these are incredible! You are very talented and captured our family so well. The colors & lighting look amazing! So tough to choose! Thanks again!! I would like to do some newborn pictures of the new guy shortly after he arrives! I will also make sure to refer you to my friends who are looking for a good photographer :) " Amber Moore - Sunnyvale, CA

"Chic" Experience - How It All Started

I used to own and operate a full service high volume 1 hour portrait studio business with a friend in San Jose, CA back in 1998. We rented a retail space, close to 1000 sq. ft., and built everything from scratch. Our business mainly targeted the teenage students and seniors from middle schools and high schools. We were situated in a great location with amazing traffic exposure. Our studio was within walking distance from most of the major schools there. We started having customers immediately after our grand opening. Business was going really well! We had customers flocking to our door almost regularly throughout the year. There were days where we were shooting all day nonstop with back-to-back sessions, without even a break for lunch- especially proms season. It's crazy!

We became quite popular within such a short period of time. We were passionate and highly motivated in creating edgy fashion magazine-style images that flaunt our subjects' attitudes and exude their characters. We experimented with limitless variation of funky poses, lightings (soft, harsh, dappled, bounced, reflected, filtered...), film types, extreme wide camera angle lenses, painted backgrounds, props, printing colors (black & white, sepia, cross-process (color boost), chemical developing and printing tricks, printing paper brands and textures... anything to pack a lot of punch, creativity and impact to our images. Our customers were head over heels over the special effects of our custom portrait packages! They purchased tons of portraits and passed them out to their friends and relatives everywhere. It didn’t take long before everybody started raving about us all over town.

It was the best experience I’ve ever had! I had the opportunity to hone my photographic skills, photograph all kinds of people (multi-ethnic backgrounds, from infants to elderly and everything in between) day in and day out; stretch my imagination, produce flattering results consistently every time regardless of my subjects, even with a limited amount of poses consisted in the smallest package...

I have since moved on from the days of high volume, slam-bam, in & out type of photography business. It was a stepping stone for me. Today I operate my portrait photography business under my own name, Minh Ha Photography. Since the company bears my name, I'm obligated to do my very best. I want to keep my clients service personable and highly customized. I do fewer sessions so I can devote more time and create something really artistic, meaningful and unique for you, rather than rushing you through like a factory. I spend time with you and help you plan and coordinate everything, so your portraits will have a lot of emotional impact and sentimental value, and every one of your portraits will be beautifully enhanced for perfection.

Ballerina Collection

Here are some other images from my Ballerina Collection not shown on my photography website. A mom (LeeAnn) wanted me to create some portraits of her daughter (Rachel) to showcase her ballet talent. Rachel turned out to be adorable, bubbly, talented and so much fun! I wanted to create a fairytale theme to this session, and she played it really well. She even made me a drawing and gave me some of her colorful gem stones for my antique treasure chest that I photographed her with afterwards. Such a sweetheart! I had the pleasure of photographing her whole family too (mom, dad and brother) at their home. Wonderful family!

"The portraits you created of our daughter are gorgeous! Rachel had a great time and didn't stop talking about it all of the way home." LeeAnn Aidt - Benicia, CA

My First Blog

Thanks for visiting my blog. I just started this "Blog" thing, so please bear with me for a while as I learn the ropes :) I'll try to update this site as often as possible with new and entertaining infos and images for your viewing pleasure. Also from this site, you'll get to see images that you may not find from my main photography website, since I can only feature a few images from each portrait session.

This site is served as a way of sharing and expressing my creative vision, personal thoughts and beliefs, feelings and passion toward portrait photography. You’ll also find images from my recent portrait sessions and the thought process and story behind each session. I hope you enjoy your visit and come back again and again and again... :)
